The implementation and enforcement of international and Community safety and security standards have been praised by officials of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), Europe's leading civil aviation authority. This week, the executive director of EASA paid a working visit to Bucharest where he had high-level meetings with representatives of the Romanian Government, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as with representatives of the aeronautical industry.
The distinguished guest also had a meeting at the headquarters of the Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority, with the General Director of the institution, Mr. Armand PETRESCU.
Among the topics covered were:
- The intention to simplify aeronautical legislation for industry in general and for general aviation in particular, a topic also addressed at the last conference that the Agency organized on this topic;
- The need to implement with priority at both European and national level a flight safety oversight system based on risk assessment and mitigation;
- The need to train specialists to be able to cope with the new changes that have occurred both at the level of industry, in general and at the level of national competent authorities.
- Mr. Patrick KY stated at the end of the visit in Bucharest that he wants an extension of the collaboration with Romania on several levels. Due to the positive findings made during the visit to Romania, EASA appreciates AACR for its efforts to ensure the appropriate number of inspection personnel necessary to supervise flight safety in Romania, compared to other national authorities in the region, as well as for its financial independence. . A possible extended collaboration plan is the support given to other aeronautical authorities in the EU's neighboring states, which are currently in a transition period on the assimilation and implementation of European legislation. Thus, AACR was invited to appoint a contact point for the development of a training center in Romania for aeronautical inspectors of other countries.
