The European Union Aviation Safety Agency's (EASA) response plan to the COVID-19 crisis, "Safe return to operations", was presented in early May by EASA Executive Director Patrick Ky at a video conference organized by European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC).
The EASA Aviation Response Plan aims to identify and address trade-related issues, recover European industry, support Member States' competent authorities and facilitate the removal of travel restrictions by implementing aviation-friendly measures aimed at preventing the spread of aviation. EASA aims to support and sustain the return of normalcy to the competent aviation authorities of the EU Member States by setting up a map of personnel, resource and structural problems through the crisis. EASA, through its intervention plan, supports Member States' competent authorities in developing realistic and proportionate surveillance programs generated by Covid 19, in managing flexibility issues and in developing recovery plans that correspond to the supervised industry.
EASA plans to reduce the impact of pandemic crises in the future: issue guidance guides for authorities and operators, hold consultations with stakeholder experts, develop pilot projects and include them in the EU Strategic Communication Guide , ways to get out of the pandemic crisis.
