The European Commission set up a coronavirus crisis response team on Monday (March 2nd) to ensure that all measures are taken to prevent the spread of the disease to the EU. In this context, the person in charge of the mobility pillar within the crisis response team, Commissioner Adina Vălean, claims that the spread of coronavirus is a very serious problem, affecting all means of transport, in all EU member states.
The European Commission's response team against the spread of coronavirus is made up of five commissioners: Janez Lenarcic (European Commissioner for Crisis Management), Stella Kyriakides (European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety), Ylva Johansson (European Commissioner for Home Affairs), Adina Vălean (European Commissioner for Transport) and Paolo Gentiloni (European Commissioner for the Economy).
At the level of the European Commission, the situation of the coronavirus epidemic is seen from a threefold perspective: 1) medical, with an emphasis on information, prevention, drug procurement, research and innovation, 2) mobility, with an increased interest in the size of the free zone Schengen movement and in the field of transport and 3) economic, with a focus on macroeconomic perspectives and the impact on the business, trade and industry sectors.
