On 16.06.2020, His Excellency Adrian Zuckerman, the US Ambassador to Romania and Mr. Armand Petrescu, the general director of the Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority (AACR) had a working meeting.
The visit takes place in the week that marks 140 years of diplomatic relations between the United States and Romania and in the conditions in which the collaboration between AACR and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is experiencing a remarkable development.
Discussions on the AACR's contribution to the development of the global and European strategy in the field of cyber security and the continuation of collaboration with the FAA in order to identify the best measures and actions for their implementation were included on the agenda of the meeting.
"The US Embassy in Bucharest will continue to support relations between the two aeronautical authorities in Romania and in the USA. I noticed an opening on the part of Romania for collaboration in the field of cyber security, Romania proving to be a reliable partner ", said His Excellency Adrian Zuckerman, the US Ambassador to Romania.
Other topics of discussion focused on training AACR inspectors for air operator certification activities (special authorizations) as well as cooperation in the field of aeronautical personnel licensing (flight simulator certification).
The possible participation of AACR representatives, as observers, was also discussed with FAA experts in the project to develop a drone identification system that the FAA is currently carrying out. In this context, the Director General of the AACR thanked for the openness shown by the FAA in deepening the collaboration with the AACR, aspects confirmed during the 40th session of the Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization held in 2019, as well as on the occasion of bilateral meetings organized on the occasion of this event.
At the AACR level, the willingness to conduct courses in the field of cyber security for the competent authorities in the region, organized by the US Transportation Security Administration in Bucharest, was expressed.
Armand Petrescu, director general of AACR said: "We are honored by the support of HE Adrian Zuckerman and this first meeting is a proof of the collaboration between the USA and Romania in the field of civil aviation. The common interests between the two countries, this year anniversary of relations between the USA and Romania are obvious and we want to consolidate this partnership in the future both bilaterally and transatlantic between the EU and the USA ”.
The Director General of AACR also stated that AACR is actively participating in the discussions taking place between the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the FAA on the resumption of flights of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
His Excellency Adrian Zuckerman, the US Ambassador to Romania and Mr. Armand Petrescu, Director General of AACR, supported the continuation of efforts to develop the collaboration between FAA and AACR, through the consistent support of the US Embassy in Romania, in order to timely resolve those issues that may arise in the areas of competence of AACR.
At the end of the meeting, the Director General of AACR presented His Excellency with the anniversary medal "25 years of AACR activity".
